Planning on going ‘flexitarian’ in 2017?

Thinking of reducing the amount of meat that you eat this year? You’re in good company!

Around 1 in 3 Brits are cutting down on the amount of meat they eat (Source: NatCen 2016) and some of the biggest food stores are now even creating special sections that help make the ‘flexitarian’ lifestyle even easier.

Does Ditching Meat Lower Certain Health Risks?

The US Department of Agriculture's latest dietary guidelines are advocates for eating meat - listing meat, eggs and dairy as the best sources of protein; without mention of the benefits of vegetables, grains or nuts.

A Stanford University professor, who is also a nutrition expert has hit back at the guidelines, saying that a vegetarian diet will do wonders for our health. Professor Stafford claims that ditching meat entirely (and not just cutting down on it) can dramatically lower the risk of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

Is getting more of your 5-a-day the secret to happiness?

It's well known that eating your 5-a-day has dozens of benefits - most of them involve your physical health. Researchers at the University of Warwick have now concluded that eating more portions of fruit and veg are making us happier too!

A study of around 12,000 people showed that the more greens (and other colours!) we eat, the higher our life satisfaction scores. Who knew there was a score for this?

Grocer New Product Awards 2016

Last year, Goodlife entered an insipringly vegtastic range of products into the Grocer New Product Awards. After months of testing with a panel of expert judges, we finally heard some fantastic news - that our Red Sky Tomato & Basil Sausages with Creamy Mozzarella and our Cauliflower & Mature Cheddar Sausages with Truffle Oil had made it through to the grand final, with the winner being announced at an awards ceremony in London in October.

Some of our team headed down to London with our fingers crossed that we had won. The vegetarian category was the last to be announced, and much to our disappointment, we unfortunately didn't win! That didn't stop us, however, and this year we decided to enter the two newest products in the Goodlife range - the Mushroom & Spinach Kiev with a Creamy Garlic & Cheese Sauce, and the Leek & Caerphilly Glamorgan Sausage with Wholegrain Mustard.

Farm Shop & Deli Show 2016

As some of you may have heard - for the second year in a row, the Goodlife team of Vegenistas took a road trip from Veg HQ down to the Farm Shop & Deli Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Armed with some cooking utensils, aprons, a freezer and some veg crates, we set up our stand, ready for the thousands of people who were due to head through the doors of the exhibition over the course of three days.

Goodlife Veggie Kievs and Sausages Review

The Brick Castle

As some of you may already have seen in our recipe pages, there's a lovely lady called Jenny (at The Brick Castle) who is a big fan of our products. We sent her some sausages and burgers in 2014, and she developed a fab recipe for a simple, yet delicious sausage and bean pie. The recipe got rave reviews here at Veg HQ and it was a winner with our team members' kids getting stuck in making them at home!

When we were releasing our brand new Mushroom and Spinach Kiev with a Creamy Garlic and Cheese Sauce, and our Leek & Caerphilly Glamorgan Sausages we thought "who better?" to review our products again. She used the sausages in a Vegetarian Sausage and Potato Supper - adjusting a Mary Berry Recipe to suit. Check out the link on the right of the page for the recipe!

World Land Trust – Keruak Corridor

As you may know, we're avid supporters of the World Land Trust and the fantastic work they carry out across the globe. We're currently donating to their Borneo Orang-utan appeal, and they have recently announced some very exciting news from Malaysian Borneo. The purchase of the final family owned plot in the first phase of the Keruak Corridor is under way!!

That means there is just one riverine parcel left unprotected. Once secure, this plot will connect an unbroken corridor of forest properties along the north bank of the Kinabatangan River between Keruak Virgin Jungle Reserve and Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. This was WLT’s dream when the Trust launched the Borneo Rainforest Appeal for Big Match Fortnight in 2013.

Goodlife and WODAC

Every year we participate in several "theme days" in the aid of charity - including "Wear it pink" day and "Christmas Jumper day", and 2015 was no exception. We decided to do something a little different at Christmas this time. A member of our team suggested we do a little fundraising for a local charity - to give back to our community. One charity that sprung to mind was WODAC; Warrington Open Door at Christmas

Vegenista Academy – The Pea Harvest

As you know, our Goodlife team are all fully fledged veg experts - vegenistas! To keep us up to date with all goings on in the veg world, we pay a visit to our farmers and suppliers regularly to learn about the veg, the growers and the processes they go through to make sure we have the highest quality of ingredients to go into our products. Only the best for Goodlife!

Our most resent Vegenista Academy visit was to a farm owned by the man referred to only as "The Pea God" (well - we didn't make up the name, but he really is the master of peas!) as well as to the factory that processes our peas to see exactly how it's done.

Goodlife in Inverness

The Goodlife Team took a trip up to the Scottish Highlands to spend a couple of days with students in a few schools around Inverness. We took some of our delicious vegetarian foodservice sausages with us for the kids try – Cauliflower Cheese “Cheezy” Sausage, and the Tomato, Red Pepper & Mozzarella “Pizza” Sausage.

We cooked up the sausages for three different schools, getting the kids to try them with their lunches and let us know what they thought. Our mission was to change the kids’ and cooks’ opinions on vegetarian food – we wanted to show them that vegetarian food can be interesting adn tasty, as well as good for you.
